Comments:

First edition of the copious logbook of a French Imperial Navy officer tasked to inspect the penitentiaries of French Guyana and containing accurate information on the natural history, practices and traditions of indigenous peoples. The fishing of a giant squid off the island of Tenerife en route to Guyana became notorious and told by Jules Verne in the novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas.
